Amazing in wild waters

Neelkanth Vidyapeeth conducted eye awareness programme under the able-supervision of vision specialist, an eye care professional, Pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Siddesh Kumar and Dr. Sobhavati Siddesh from Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Raichur, Karnataka. The main objective of the programme is to identify incipient diseases, disorders and disability by adequate and timely action and to become the anchor of promotive and preventive health. He emphasized suggesting the ways to reduce the backlog of avoidable blindness through identification and treatment of curable blind at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. 6- 7% of children aged 10-14 years have problems with their eye sight which affects their learning at school. The purpose of the program is to empower the children to take care of their health by means of enhanced knowledge regarding healthy practices, food and nutrition and an improved access to teachers and students for discussing issues related to adolescent health. Visual impairment is defined as uncorrected visual acuity of less than 6/12 in the better eye. The PPT presentation was given excellent baseline knowledge of school students and teachers regarding healthy practices for a healthy vision and to assess the improvement in their knowledge after the awareness session.
